Is it right or wrong for you to be an atheist, but pretend to be a theist around your family so you don't upset them?

be an atheist and join the armed forces ?

pretend to be a sexy woman while internet chatting ?

pretend to have certain political beliefs around your friends but vote a different way at the polls ?

try to help others when they don't ask ?

right If you're younger, best not to let your family know until you're financially dependant.

wrong lying is wrong.

right Why do they have to know? besides they'll try to convert you and worry and stuff

wrong if you don't give the option of insight for your family, they can never change.

wrong a family that can only stay together based on lies needs to find a stronger basis.

wrong Honesty is the best policy, esp when familiy and friends are concerned,

wrong they'll be upset by the world anyway

wrong I am a proud atheist. I care not if I upset others being myself.

wrong You should never hide who you are.

right some things are better left not argued about

wrong I don't know why i do this.

wrong i haven't to lie to my family.

right it'll cost nothing to you and prevent rants

wrong being yourself is key

wrong if you are an atheist then it's part of who you are, so your family should accept that.

right you do what you want to make your life easier. Still, honesty is the best policy.

wrong it's lying, lol.

wrong You should always be honest. Truth may not be the most comfortable thing, but hey that's why you became an atheist anyway, because you valued truth over comfort.

right If that is done, than it is to spare the families feelings. But this doesn't come up question from the athiests I know .

wrong you don't have to live a lie to find a compromise; If your family rejects you for your beliefs, they're a pretty crappy family.

wrong you should be yourself, especially around family

right sometimes it is not worth the effort, and one cannot really help whether or not they believe.

wrong lying is wrong, and I'm a moral atheist.

right it doesn't harm anyone. And god doesn't exist anyway so there are no after-death consequences.

right needless conflict is wasteful. Not that my family cares what I believe, but I do moderate my viewpoint depending on my audience.

right there's no real need to hurt your family's feelings

right family ties are more important to me than the possible existance or non-existance of God.

right upsetting them is the point
