Is it right or wrong for you to keep a lost phone or laptop for yourself?

 

wrong I'd be fucking pissed if I lost my shit and some asswipe found it and kept it rather than try to locate me or turn it over to the police.

right This is a poor question. Yes, it is, as long as you make a reasonable effort to find the person who lost it.

wrong You might be taking from someone without a surplus.

wrong phones and laptops have identifying info in them that you can use to track the owner down so they don't lose important data that might not be easily replaced

wrong It's not yours. You could even ruin someone's livlihood by depriving them of important information. You wouldn't want your stuff stolen, would you?

wrong It's theft. Maybe after you exhausted all attempts to find the owner.
