don't keep a lost wallet for yourself
it is stealing. Period.

keep a lost child to yourself
i can take care of the child until I find the parents

don't turn in your child/spouse/parent for a crime they committed
my first responsability is to my family

Hire expensive lawyers to get away with the crime
expensive lawyers are (exceptions aside) better prepared lawyers, and my right to defend myself would be better upheld by them.
